The PCW PROGRAM
produces accurate estimates of spending on supermarket-type
merchandise in any geographic area within the USA. It is an Excel program designed
for interactive use by a trained market analyst familiar with
census and demographic data sources.
PCW is the accepted acronym for "per capita weekly
spending on supermarket-type merchandise".
"Supermarket-type merchandise" (S-T-M) includes both
food and those non-food lines commonly sold in supermarkets, such
as:
- Pet foods
- Alcoholic beverages
- Paper goods
- Tobacco products
|
- Cleaning supplies
- Health and beauty aids
- General merchandise, such as minor
electrical and automotive supplies
|
The PCW PROGRAM estimates include the increasing
proportions of S-T-M spending at store-types other than supermarkets.
For example, at Warehouse Clubs, Supercenters, and Dollar Stores.
The PCW Program considers the key demographics that
influence the level of S-T-M spending in local areas, including
household size, income , ethnic background, urbanization, and U.S.
region.
The data sources employed in the PCW PROGRAM are
the annual Consumer Expenditure Surveys conducted by the U.S. Bureau
of Labor Statistics, the latest Census of Retail Trade, monthly
retail sales estimates by the U.S. Commerce Department, and trade
estimates.
The program is available as a leased subscription, and is updated at least four (4) times a year. |
